On 18th November 2010, Run and Become played host to a very unique and special person, Ashrita Furman. The “Guinness World Record Breaker of the Year”, was in London to break the World Record for walking in the heaviest shoes for a distance of 10m. Now 10 metres doesn’t sound very far, but when you’re wearing shoes that weigh 160lbs each it suddenly seems a bit more of a challenge. Ashrita is a record breaking veteran, currently he holds 120 Guinness World Records, for this record he walked in a pair of specially built steel and lead shot filled running shoes, each of which matched his body weight. Ashrita has set or beaten a total of 318 records in numerous categories and currently holds the record for breaking the most number of Guinness World Records. “I’m trying to show others that our human capacity is unlimited if we can truly believe in ourselves,” he says.

Hardly a man is now alive, who would want to do what Ashrita Furman … the Carl Lewis of oddball athletics … has just done.” – People Magazine
