KT Tape is an abbreviation of Kinesiology Therapeutic Tape. It’s an ultra-strong and light elastic tape, used for injury prevention and rehabilitation. It offers excellent protection for the muscles and joints. Unlike most other sports tape, KT Tape provides elasticity, ensuring comfort without restricting natural movement, allowing freedom to the muscles and joints.
How Does KT Tape Work?
KT Tape works well with a majority of sporting injuries, lifting the skin off the muscles, helping promote the circulation around the affected area, and enhancing blood flow towards the heart. This particularly aids the reduction of inflammation, helping to speed up recovery and reduce injury or muscle cramps.
KT tape is applied along muscles, ligaments and tendons to provide a lightweight, strong, external support without the prevention of mobility during exercise.
KT Tape provides pain relief from common sporting injuries, such as:
- ITB Pain
- Shin Splints
- Calf/Hamstring Strain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Runner’s Knee
Who is KT Tape For?
KT Tape is designed for use by any athlete, and is recommended for all age groups who want to perform and train consistently.
How to Apply KT Tape?
Applying the tape is simple! Most common sporting injuries related to running will usually require around two strips of tape. These strips will be pre-cut therefore making it easy to tear off allowing an easy application. KT tape uses a medical adhesive which sticks comfortably to the skin, there is no need to remove body hair either with the application, as the removal of the tape is painless.
It is completely safe for you to apply the tape yourself, although you may need a little help with neck, back and shoulder applications. Each box comes with an instruction leaflet, showing easy step-by-step images for correct application.
Injury-specific video instructions (1-2 minutes long) for the majority of sporting injuries are also available on the KT Tape website. Here are a couple of examples:
KT Tape Usage
We recommend the tape is replaced every 2-3 days after application, but it can last up to 5 days. It’s completely fine for use in water too – so swimming, showering or rain and mud won’t affect its effectiveness.
